Airing my Dirty Laundry

I have had two days off. Instead of tackling the very large to-do list I created for myself, I instead- got drunk, ate a meatball sandwich and gelato at my favorite Italian market, ate more pasta from said market and spent ohh 1000 hours or so on the Internet looking up cats meowing to annoy my dog. Self Help-How about you do the massive pile of laundry laying on your floor that is so large the bedroom floor is no longer visible? I just want to be more like her-http://www.marthastewart.com/271135/do-the-laundry. Wish me luck.

I Confess by Alison Luterman

I stalked her
in the grocery store: her crown
of snowy braids held in place by a great silver clip,
her erect bearing, radiating tenderness,
the way she placed yogurt and avocadoes in her basket,
beaming peach like the North Star.
I wanted to ask “What aisle did you find
your serenity in, do you know
how to be married for fifty years, or how to live alone,
excuse me for interrupting, but you seem to possess
some knowledge that makes the earth burn and turn on its axis—”
but we don’t request such things from strangers
nowadays. So I said, “I love your hair.”

LIFE LIST- Learn to take better pictures. Taking an online photography class through SuperHero photo.  I haven’t been able to participate quite as much as I would like but have learned a lot and taken a lot of pictures. There is still two week left in the clas but this is my favorite so far.

So I accidentally ate raw chicken yesterday at work. Don’t ask. In my salmonella induced terror I stumbled across this article. Good to know.

Scenes from a restaurant #1

Customer: I thought my shrimp came with linguini.

Me: Ma’am you ordered a tapas plate.

Customer: Blank stare. I did?

Me: Yes, you said you just wanted something light.

Customer: I thought the dish came with linguini though.

Me: Ma’am we are a Spanish restaurant, we don’t even have linguini on the menu.

Customer: So I can’t get linguini? I don’t understand.

End Scene.

For national poetry month- my favorite poet

Writing a Résumé’ – Wisława Szymborska

What needs to be done?
Fill out the application
and enclose a résumé.

Regardless of the length of life
a résumé is best kept short.

Concise, well-chosen facts are de rigueur.
Landscapes are replaced by addresses,
shaky memories give way to unshakable dates.

Of all your loves mention only the marriage,
of all your children only those who were born.

Who knows you counts more than who you know.
Trips only if taken abroad.
Memberships in what but without why.
Honors, but not how they were earned.

Write as if you’d never talked to yourself
and always kept yourself at arm’s length.

Pass over in silence your dogs, cats, birds,
dusty keepsakes, friends, and dreams.

Price, not worth,
and title, not what’s inside.
His shoe size, not where he’s off to,
that one you pass yourself off as.

In addition, a photograph with one ear showing.
What matters is its shape, not what it hears.
What is there to hear, anyway?
The clatter of paper shredders.

Life lists and better photos

My daily go- to blog is mightygirl.com run by Maggie Mason. She has a Life List of 100 things she wants to do before she goes and it has inspired me to make one too.  One of my goals is ” Learn to take better pictures”. I just signed up for an e-photo course at superherophoto.com. I’m really excited about it. One down- 99 to go!
